Brazil is seeking a global PR agency to manage communications around its sporting profile, which is set to rise dramatically as the country plays host to the Fifa World Cup and Olympic Games.

The Holmes Report understands that the brief is worth US$10 million annually, and is being overseen by the Social Communication Relations Office of Brazil’s Ministry of Sports (MoS).

It is further believed that a handful of international PR agencies have submitted proposals, which are currently being evaluated.

According to the tender, the MoS is looking for increased scope to face the varied comms demands that will come from hosting the 2014 World Cup, the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, and the 2013 Confederation Cup.

These demands are understood to include the “socioeconomic and cultural impact of the Olympics within Brazil”, and its effect on the country’s international image.

In addition, the MoS is expected to play a critical bridging role between the Government, organising bodies and other external institutions. As such, it has identified the need for a “better communications infrastructure”.

Accordingly, the brief is not related to PR for the individual sporting events.
