Whistleblowing website Wikileaks is poised to appoint a PR agency to handle the massive media scrutiny that the organisation is attracting.

The Independent believes that Borkowski PR will shortly take up the role. Speaking to the Holmes Report, Mark Borkowski confirmed that he had been approached for a brief that counts as one of the “trickiest” he has ever seen.

The news comes with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange due in a UK court tomorrow to appeal against his extradition to Sweden, where is wanted for questioning about sexual assault claims.

“The issue is they need a professional press office to deal with the level of press they have,” said Borkoswki, a high-profile PR veteran who is particularly well-known for this celebrity and entertainment client portfolio.

Borkowski met with Wikileaks during the Christmas and New Year period, and added that the organisation has approached other agencies as well.

Wikileaks has attracted considerable media scrutiny since it began publishing US State Department diplomatic cables in late 2010, after releasing confidential Iraq and Afghanistan war documents earlier in the year. Yesterday, it emerged that the US had issued Twitter with a subpoena demanding private messages, billing details and other details.
