Edelman raids rivals for new Australian leadership team

I was going to post this on PRWeek, but the CMS for that site is down. So it goes up here instead.

Edelman has poached Hill & Knowlton veteran Michelle Hutton to head its operation in Australia. Hutton joins the agency after 15 years with H&K, including a successful six-year stint as CEO.

She becomes CEO of Edelman Australia on 1 June. The agency has not stopped there, luring Alexandra Kelly from Weber Shandwick Sydney to become GM of its Sydney office. The moves are part of Edelman Asia-Pacific CEO Alan VanderMolen’s stated aim of building a A$10 million business in the country.

VanderMolen believes that giving the firm a ‘distinctly Australian’ identity is the first step to reaching that goal. The agency’s current Australia MD Amanda Little becomes head of a new national sustainability practice.

Said Vandermolen:

“This is the first phase of a broader plan of initiatives that Edelman will be rolling out in Australia. As the world’s largest independent PR firm, we have the power to make significant investment initiatives in the PR industry, at a time when many of our competitors are still under the weight of the global financial crisis.”

The Australia reshuffle comes just weeks after Edelman hired former MS&L global CEO Mark Hass to head its China office.
